Items

The items Bomberman collects are split into four categories: Weapons, Armours, Bomb Components, and Items.

Weapons

Yeah, Weapons is a bad name since they're not all weapons. You can have two weapons equipped at once, one to A and one to B, and only two bombs can be on screen at once. Bombs with cross style explosions only damage things on the ground, whereas circular explosion bombs can damage anything; so when I suggest using Flak Bombs, it means you can use anything with a circular explosion.

Normal Bomb

Goes off in a + pattern.

Your default weapon, and will be definitely used the most.

[Location: You start with it]

Ice Bomb

Anyone caught in its blast is frozen for a short time.

Quite handy, and is used to defeat Grein. Cross style bomb.

[Location: Ice Shard + Explosive Core]

Poison Bomb

Anyone caught in its blast moves slower for a short time.

A cross style bomb.

[Location: Poison Ivy + Explosive Core]

Short-fused Bomb

Bomb that goes off faster than a normal bomb.

Only "bobs" once before exploding. A cross style bomb.

[Location: Clock + Explosive Core]

Long-fused Bomb

Bomb that goes off slower than a normal bomb.

"Bobs" eight times before exploding. A cross style bomb.

[Location: Clock + Explosive Core]

Rubber Bomb

Bomb that bounces when thrown.

By "bounces", it means goes an extra tile, sometimes in a different direction, when thrown or kicked. A cross style bomb.

[Location: Rubber + Explosive Core]

Wide-range Bomb

Bomb with a blast radius that gets larger the longer it is held.

It's a pretty pointless bomb, considering it takes forever to get to a decent length. A cross style bomb.

[Location: Gotten from Balballoon]

Skull Bomb

Blast produces various effects for a short time in those caught in the blast.

These effects include either freezing them or slowing them down. Cross style bomb.

[Location: Skull + Explosive Core]

Landmine

Bomb that goes off when stepped on by a monster (but not Bomberman).

One of the more useful bombs, lasts about two or three seconds before expiring. I recommend not increasing it's flame. Cross style bomb.

[Location: Gotten from Kurin]

Flak Bomb

Bomb that also affects flying monsters.

Useful until you realise all other circular explosion bombs affect flying monsters.

[Location: Gotten from Shelterine]

Homing Bomb

Bomb that chases after nearest monster when kicked or thrown.

Kicking it is pretty pointless, since it moves slow, but throwing is pretty good. Circular explosion.

[Location: Gotten from Pinokion]

Speed Bomb

Weighs less than other bombs so can be kicked or thrown further.

It's pretty pointless, really, except for one puzzle. Circular explosion.

[Location: F3]

Aqua Bomb

Bomb that can be used underwater.

Circular explosion.

[Location: Gotten from Krabbler]

Robot Bomb

Bomb that can be moved as long as the button is held down.

It moves slow and has a circular explosion, and you're motionless while using it. You can imagine how useful that is.

[Location: Show cards to man in E5]

Right Bomb

Bomb that curves to the right when kicked or thrown.

I honestly can't see where this would be useful. Circular explosion.

[Location: Boomerang + Explosive Core]

Left Bomb

Bomb that curves to the left when kicked or thrown.

Ditto.

[Location: Boomerang + Explosive Core]

Yo-yo

Can be used to move bombs.

I guess this would be useful if you misplaced your bomb, but that's all I can think of.

[Location: Gotten from Burol]

!?

Press the button to see Bomberman dance!

Dance in front of the Bomberman statues, and you'll be rewarded with items.

[Location: Gotten from Devil Ant]

Shovel

Used for digging holes. Sometimes you might find a Mini-heart!

See the Cheats section for what you can dig up.

[Location: Gotten from Digadug]

Shield

Protects Bomberman from arrows launched by traps.

Why bother when you can just jump or fly over them?

[Location: Gotten from Trent]

Gauntlets

Allows Bomberman to throw bombs as well as knock out nearby enemies.

It's essentially a close range Yo-yo and Tackle Belt in one. And it's clearly boxing gloves, not gauntlets.

[Location: Gotten from Yeti]

Wings

Allow Bomberman to fly for a limited time.

Definitely one of the more useful abilities. There's no reason to use the Jump Shoes once you've got this.

[Location: Gotten from Jackenboxx]

Jump Shoes

Allow Bomerman to jump.

Useful at first, but totally redundant once you've got the wings.

[Location: Gotten from Curansee]

Dash Shoes

Allow Bomberman to walk faster as long as the button is held.

A truly optional item, but I love it. Mostly used for running over collapsing tiles.

[Location: Gotten from Onil]

Power Gloves

Allow Bomberman to pick up and throw bombs and monsters.

Only certain monsters, though.

[Location: Gotten from Mechabomb]

Hammer

Used to pound nails and can be used to knock out monsters.

The Gauntlets are better for close-range knocking out imo.

[Location: Gotten from Despider]

Remote Control

Bombs become remote control bombs--push the button to detonate them.

Annoyingly, you have to have this and a bomb equipped, or else you'll just have a detonator for nothing. Also, both bombs detonate at once, instead of in order of placement.

[Location: Hurricommander: A3]

Tackle Belt

By activating the switch on this belt, Bomberman can stun monsters by ramming into them.

The description is wonky, but hold the button and he sprints forward, stunning monsters and can also push buttons.

[Location: Gotten from Borey]

Armours

Armours can be used again and again, but you can only use one at a time.

Silver Armour

Reduces all damage by half when worn.

Once you get this, you should essentially keep it on all the time unless you need something else, until you get the superior Gold Armour.

[Location: E1]

Gold Armour

Reduces all damage by three-fourths while worn.

See what I mean? It essentially triples your health.

[Location: H8 (Glasses)]

Platinum Armour

Protects Bomberman from the effects of Ice Bombs, Poison Bombs, and Skull Bombs.

This is pretty pointless in the quest, unless you've a habit of running into your explosions, but can be handy for multi-player. What's with the M on it?

[Location: Gotten from Pygmin]

Teleport Armour

Teleports Bomberman to a random location when he is damaged.

I guess this is best if you want a head start at running away, but why? You just lose a full block of health unlike with Silver or Gold Armor.

[Location: H5]

Steel Shoes

Very heavy shoes that prevent Bomberman from being thrown by enemies.

Why would you want to avoid being thrown when you can barely walk? Save it for the puzzles.

[Location: C3 of Water Commander's lair]

Sneakers

Increase Bomberman's walking speed.

Anything's better than his default snail's pace, but it doesn't quite match the Dash Shoes.

[Location: Gotten from Torton]

Rocket Shoes

Greatly increase Bomberman's walking speed.

These match the speed of the Dash Shoes, but you're vulnerable to heavy damage. Just keep the Dash Shoes.

[Location: G3 (Glasses)]

Combat Boots

Allow Bomberman to kick bombs. Be careful-- kicked bombs can't be stopped!

The distance they are kicked seems to fluctuate. Sometimes it's just one tile, sometimes it's to the other side of the screen.

[Location: B1]

Safety Shoes

Protects Bomberman from all dangerous surfaces.

Dangerous surfaces, so no, you can't walk over pits or water.

[Location: Gotten from Ghostey]

Glasses

Allows Bomberman to see hidden items while worn.

Why is it called Glasses when it's clearly a monocle?

[Location: Gotten from Crystal Demon]

Power Bracelets

Allows Bomberman to move rocks.

And move them very easily as well. No struggling or anything.

[Location: Field: Aquatic Mine]

Scuba Gear

Allows Bomberman to move freely underwater.

And on water as well. Amusingly, he doesn't swim, he still walks and jumps and flies.

[Location: Gotten from Grein]

Helmet

Protects Bomberman from falling rocks and from being knocked out.

More of a safety precaution, you can get by falling rocks easily if you're fast.

[Location: Gotten from Gargoyle]

Lamp

Allows Bomberman to see in dark places.

Amusingly, it doesn't light up the cave in G1. You can also avoid using the lamp by pausing and unpausing, as it lights up everything for a split second.

[Location: Beach Cave1]

Full Fire

Increases bomb firepower to maximum for as long as it is attached.

Essentially a replacement for using Flames, but that's it.

[Location: Gotten from Full Fire]

Leather Armour

Halves damage dealt by Chaos Bomber.

He's such a big cheese he gets an armour dedicated to only his attacks.

[Location: Gotten from Walking Hat]

Bomb Components

Bomb Components are used to enhance or create new bombs, and are all one-time use.

Rubber

Using this with the Explosive Core gets you the fairly useless Rubber Bomb.

[Location: Gotten from Blobby, Forest Cave A]

Clock

This, fused with an Explosive Core, can get you one of two bombs: The Long-Fused Bomb, and the Short-Fused Bomb. [note]

[Location: G1, gotten from Seeballon, A5 (!?), A1 (Glasses)]

Ice Shard

The Ice Shard fused with the Explosive Core leaves you with the handy Ice Bomb.

[Location: Gotten from Iceal, C6 (dig)]

Poison Ivy

Combining this with an Explosive Core nets you the Poison Bomb.

[Location: Dig in the very bottom left of G6, gotten from Snaky]

Boomerang

The Boomerang is another component with multiple results; the Right Bomb and Left Bomb.

[Location: Gotten from Gell, E7 (dig), B8]

Skull

The Skull maintains it's negative effect by getting you the Skull Bomb.

[Location: Gotten from Killer Moth, B6 (dig)]

Explosive Core

You can't make bombs just with random items alone, you need something to make them go boom.

[Location: Gotten from all Commanders, Radiobomb Jr., Baddo, Hippity-Hop ; C4 (dig), G1 (!?)]

Flame

Flames, when combined with bombs, either lengthen their distance (cross style bombs), or increase the amount of time the explosion lasts (circular explosion bombs).

[Location: Gotten from Tinklebear, Hoopster, Flyball, Puuyan, Mad Flower, Ballom, Parse; D4 (dig)]

Items

Items are all one-time use items, except for the Flute, and you can only have one of them in your inventory, so be careful.

Armored Jacket

Make Bomberman invulnerable for a short time.

In the other games this is called the Flameproof Jacket, and only keeps you protected from bomb flames, so you get a good deal with this now. It lasts a little over 15 seconds.

[Location: Gotten from Skullhead, C5 (Glasses)]

Stopwatch

Stops traps for a short time.

Note that it says it stops traps, not enemies. This means that it's usefulness is round about zero, considering traps can be evaded easily with the right tools. It doesn't help matters that it only stops traps for around 5 to 6 seconds.

[Location: Gotten from Fruity, B3 (!?)]

Flute

Returns Bomberman to shuttle when used.

And you can do that as many times as you want, wherever you want; even in boss battles (excluding Chaos Bomber)! And why is it called a Flute when it's clearly an Ocarina?

[Location: You start with it.]

Heart

Mini-heart

Restores up to three health.

These are always handy to have, especially with the armour, as it can double or even triple the health you get!

[Location: Any enemy you've beaten before]

Mini-hearts only refill one unit of health, but can be found just about anywhere.

[Location: Anywhere, using the Shovel]

Full Heart

Restores health to max level.

These are even better. Full health! The bad part is that they're very rare, and only come from certain enemies.

[Location: Gotten from Pengy, Sandey, F7]

White Card

Trading card with a picture of Bomberman White.

One third of the only fetch quest in the game.

[Location: Gotten from Archer]

Black Card

Trading card with a picture of Bomberman Black.

And another third.

[Location: Gotten from Matango]

Honey Card

Trading card with a picture of a pretty woman.

And the last part. Once you've got them all, show them to the old man on E5, the lower right of Peace Town, and he'll give you the Robot Bomb.

[Location: Gotten from Shadow Knight]

*The two Bomb Components which can get you two bombs, the Clock and Boomerang, seem to have some programming errors. When I tried to get the Short-Fused Bomb after I had the Long-Fused Bomb, sometimes I just got more Long-Fused ones. I recommend saving before you try to fuse the pieces, and maybe equip and lay a bomb before talking to the man.
