Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle
| |
In another flashback, we see a much younger Krauser out walking with his father, Rudolph, at their castle. They stop however when they see another young boy before them, who happens to be Geese. Geese says that it was Rudolph's fault that his mother is dead as he left her to die. Krauser realises that the boy is Geese, who is his half-brother, and as Geese attempts to stab Rudolph with a dagger, Krauser stops him, and after causing him injury he and his father leave whilst saying that he should only ever come back if he ever learns how to fight.
Geese is then bought out of his flashback by Hopper, who comes to the cave to tell him that Terry has been defeated by Krauser. Geese simply tells him that they will now put their plan into motion and as Hopper leaves to get started on this, Geese quietly says to himself about how Krauser is going to deal with this.
Next thing we see is that Terry is once again battling Krauser, but he runs into a wall and despite telling Krauser to stop, his opponent grabs him by the face and and after briefly laughing at him, he seemingly kills Terry by blasting his head with red energy!
It was all just a dream though and as he wakes up a woman greets him and says that Tony bought him home. She is Tony's mother and tells Terry that he has been here for three days now, and as Terry finds out more he learns that she is too weak to work so Tony is the one who goes out to earn all of their money and asks Terry not to encourage him to fight. Terry thanks her for everything she has done for him and that he'll leave today.
As he gets to the train station, Tony is also outside holding down a job as a shoe-shiner, but he stops to go and ask Terry why he has left his home as he isn't fully healed yet. Terry tells him not to follow him any more and that he should return home to his mother to look after her. He then bids him farewell and gets on the train, telling Tony that he simply has "places to go".
As the train leaves South Town, Terry gets off at the next stop but Tony has also followed him by getting a free ride on the train thanks to him just waiting on the top of it. Terry seems to have started drinking though and as he reaches a park to take a seat and have a drink, he calls out to Tony who is surprised that he's been busted so quickly. Terry is angry that he has followed him and again tells him to return home as he's just a drunk who can't look after a kid, but Tony says he can look after himself and that he won't give up on Terry, and he then leaves Terry to keep drinking.
And this starts off Terry's depression as he just starts walking from bar to bar getting as drunk as possible. At one place however he has a little too much and is practically passed out, but the two door-men come inside and throw him out into a
pile of garbage before they leave him there.
Tony finds Terry barely conscious later on and helps him up and then asks if he should be training or something as Krauser said he would be waiting in his castle for a re-match. Terry is not interested in this and says that it is too late, has has already lost and after taking his gloves off and throwing them into the trash he stumbles off, referring to Krauser as a monster who is too powerful for him to take on.

Moving away from all that gloominess, the next thing we see is a young girl running up to a dojo where an old man is brushing up. The girl is none other than Mai Shiranui, who has heard that Andy has returned here and wants to go and see him. The old man, who happens to be her sensei, is Jubei who tells her that Andy is practicing up in the mountains. Before she can go though he demonstrates how he is a disgusting old pervert by dashing across to her and feeling her breasts for no reason. Mai also finds him to be a disgusting old pervert and tells him to keep his hands to himself and then slaps him across the face with one of her fans as she then leaves to find Andy.
And up in the mountains, Andy Bogard is training out on a raft on the river, and after doing a few punches and kicks he catches two fans and wonders what they could be when he hears someone above him and sees Mai, who jumps down to join him on the raft. She's not happy though and attacks him, asking why he has come back now but not told her.
Andy keeps saying
stupid shit that angers Mai and she eventually spins round to perform her Ryu En Bu (dragon fire dance) attack which knocks him down as she declares she is Japan's number one. As Andy regains his senses another voice calls out to him, and he looks up to see Joe Higashi waiting next to the river.
Joe tells Andy that Terry has been defeated and that he seems to have disappeared. Andy can't quite believe what has happened but they all return back to the dojo to find Jubei, and Andy and Joe try to find out more about this Krauser guy. Jubei knows who he is and reveals that his full name is Wolfgang Krauser and that he is an incredibly skilled fighter.
He then goes on to provide more information and says that he is the latest in a line of warriors that stretches back to Rome, and that he is the 35th Earl of Strolheim. Krauser and his family have been guardians of European nobility for generations and that they act as a secret service for any royal who needs protection. But this is merely a hoax that the public believes, in reality it is the other way round: the Earls of Strolheim are the ones who rule, and they have the power to overthrow governments and even topple thrones.
Jubei goes on to say that Wolfgang Krauser is the strongest one in the family yet and that on his sixteenth birthday, he challenged his father to a fight to become head of the family. In the battle, Krauser defeated his father in hand to hand combat and killed him, but he did not even shed a tear, and is said to have just started laughing instead. As Andy gets more and more angry with each word he hears, Mai is secretly overhearing the entire conversation, but finds it boring.
And at the castle in Germany, Krauser walks up to a picture of his father and says that for just one day each year, he thinks about him. He then has another flashback to the time when he was 6 years old, and that his father once beat him up and told him that if he didn't like it, he should become stronger - stronger than anyone else in the world!
As Krauser thinks about his past, he says that he did not cry again since his beating as a six year old and that 10 years later, on his sixteenth birthday, he stood before his father to fight him. Whilst Rudolph said that Krauser had gotten stronger, he was still no match for him and that he will remain head of the family no matter what.
However, Rudolph underestimated his son, who destroyed him within seconds. With Rudolph dead, Krauser became the head of the family but he did not feel any sense of triumph in the battle, only emptiness, and this is all he has felt ever since the battle with his father ended.
Back in Japan, Jubei is still telling Andy everything he knows about Krauser and says that he even has a half-brother, but even he is scared of Krauser's power. Andy gets up to leave with the only intention to find and fight Krauser and even Mai can't convince him to stay. Joe says he'll go with him though but Jubei says they are both idiots and that neither of them are ready to fight Krauser yet, but since his reasoning is pointless now they've made up their minds, he says they can only go if they manage to defeat him in a fight first!
Meanwhile, back in the USA, Terry has once again been drinking and is having a rest on a park bench when a gang of four approach him and say that they have a problem: they've been out all night drinking but have now run out of cash, and they want Terry to hand over his money. Terry says he's broke and tells them to get lost before they get hurt, so the gang leader picks him up, only for him to spit in his face. The gang leader says he'll kill him but Terry knocks him out instead and then tells the others he'll show them what a real fight is like.
Nearby, Tony has found some work moving bottles of beer but overhears several people saying that a fight has broken out in the park, so he follows them and sure enough, a big group of people have gathered to see the battered bodies of the four gang members whilst Terry has taken a seat again to start drinking, and he's too drunk to notice them.
In Japan once more, Jubei says that if he wins this fight, then Andy must remain in Japan to continue training, and the two begin their battle. Jubei may be old but he still has tremendous amounts of power for his age, and is an expert in judo which he uses to toss Andy around. Meanwhile Joe and Mai are watching and Joe thinks to himself how much stronger and faster Andy has gotten compared to this time last year.
Jubei is eventually defeated by Andy's Ku Ha Dan (sky rending shot) move which sends Jubei flying into some boards. Andy then leaves and Joe goes too, saying that they'll be off now. Jubei tells Mai to go with them and that she must stop Andy from fighting Krauser no matter what it takes. As she leaves, Jubei is left along thinking that he might be getting too old for this kind of thing now and that he might need to retire.
Joe's had a new voice actor in the Japanese version, and is now voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama, who replaces Masaaki Satake, who did Joe's voice for the first anime. SNK seemed to like Nobuyuki Hiyama though since not only did he voice Joe in the next anime, he went on to voice the character for the games as well, and still does the voice for him today.
There is meant to be a scene that takes place right after Geese sends Hopper off to put their plan into motion which involves Joe fighting against Big Bear (known as Raiden in the previous anime) which is started by Cheng Sinzan. I haven't seen this scene and it doesn't appear to be in the version I have, but the (terrible) Wikipedia page for this anime says that the American DVD does have it as an Easter Egg, and it was never dubbed into English. This scene was in the movie as standard in the Japanese laser disc release. It would make sense to have this scene (Joe wins the fight) as without it it means that Joe does nothing in the movie but get his butt kicked quite badly. Also, without this scene, Big Bear and Cheng do not appear in the movie at all, and would be the only characters from the Fatal Fury 2 game not to appear in the anime in some way.
Jack Turner from Art of Fighting, which is another fighting game series by SNK, makes a cameo appearance in the movie.
He's one of the door-men who throw Terry into the trash during the part where he starts to drink a lot.
