The World's Greatest Warrior

One night, Gouken, the master of Ryu and Ken, receives a visit from Akuma, his brother. However, Akuma is now the self-proclaimed "world's greatest warrior" after learning the raging demon technique. After taking Gouken's chi for himself, Akuma finds and challenges Ryu and Ken, saying that if they lose he will take their chi for himself to make him even more powerful. With Ryu injured, it is up to Ken to defeat Akuma.

The start of the episode shows Gouken's house from the outside, with thunder and lightning happening. Akuma suddenly appears at the door to see Gouken meditating in front of a fire. Akuma, for some reason, is a complete shadow here, kind of resembling the Mortal Kombat character Noob Saibot in terms of appearance.

<Ragey> more like blondey mcpouty lip am i rite lol

The two babble on about literally nothing interesting, but we do get to see two HIDEOUSLY bad pictures of Ryu and Ken ... and yes, that is supposed to be Ken, by the way. Gouken also shows Akuma how he can float, but then Akuma says that he has returned because he has mastered their techniques to the full, and know knows how to do the Raging Demon, much to Gouken's surprise.

And when Gouken replies with "Not the Raging Demon!" Akuma simply says "yes!" and we finally get to see him properly. And Akuma wastes no time in actually doing the move, but it appears to be quite different than in the games. You simply see Akuma seemingly get ready to punch Gouken, but then the shot cuts to outside his house and that's the end of the scene.

Meanwhile, Ken is in a fight with the village champion, a fight which he quite easily wins. Ryu doesn't think that he's taking the fight seriously enough, but Ken simply wants the money and the girls. Ryu also adds that they shouldn't be fighting anyway as they'd promised their master that they would visit him tonight and that they both should have been there by now. However, Akuma suddenly appears in the sky, holding the body of Gouken.

Akuma drops the body of Gouken, as Ken gets ready to finish his opponent off. Ryu notices Gouken though, and makes a leap to save his master, just as Ken is doing a flying kick. The two collide, but Ryu still manages to save Gouken - but receives a blow to his left arm. The animation for this section literally slows down to frame by frame for this bit, that's why the middle image isn't clear.

And up above, Akuma starts to descend surrounded by a weird pink energy field thing which spins around him. He taunts Ryu and Ken by saying he is the strongest warrior and has mastered their fighting techniques, then proposes a challenge: they must fight him, and if he wins, he gets to take their chi. He will also give them a few hours to train, but Ken says he'll fight Akuma right now, and tries to punch him. Akuma simply vanishes into thin air as Ken misses.

It turns out that Gouken isn't actually dead, and he awakens to tell them about Akuma's past. It shows how Akuma wanted to take on the entire world, and how he saw himself to be much better than Gouken at fighting. Gouken believed that Akuma would one day become a more positive fighter, but it appears now that this will never happen.

And so, it's up to Ryu and Ken to defeat Akuma, and to stop him from becoming invincible. They take Gouken back to his house, but it's likely that he will die unless he can get his chi back. Gouken commands the two to stop Akuma, and to "save him from his evil".

Ryu and Ken decide to train and have a fight against each other. As soon as the fight starts, it becomes apparent to Ken that Ryu is injured. Ryu's arm is hurt from when Ken kicked it accidentally earlier on. Ryu keeps trying to fight but soon has to stop, after Ken forces him too. Ryu still says that he is going to fight Akuma.

And then, Akuma appears. Ken is more than ready to fight him, together with Ryu, but Akuma states that two on one isn't fair, and so traps Ken in this weird bubble thing, before turning his attention to Ryu, and taunting him by asking him how is arm is.

Ryu doesn't bother answering, instead going straight into the fight. He doesn't do that badly, managing to place in quite a few hits, but eventually his arm starts to hinder him and Akuma decides to take advantage by punching it as hard as he possibly can, causing Ryu to fall to the ground, defeated.

With Ryu defeated, Akuma takes Ryu chi, much to the disgust of Ken. With Ryu now out of power he collapses and Akuma starts to laugh, with only Ken left to try and defeat him.

And with that, Akuma frees Ken from that weird bubble thing he put him in earlier. Ken rushes at Akuma, but before he can start to fight him, Akuma hits the ground, making part of it rise extremely high into the sky. Ken says that Akuma's attempts to psyche him out weren't going to work, and with that Ken finally attacks.

Ken starts with a Hurricane Kick which Akuma blocks, and as Ken lands Akuma grabs him and throws him to the edge of the rock. Ken gets up, but Akuma is charging a fireball which he releases. Ken tries to jump it but it still hits him and sends him hurtling off the edge.

Ken, however, starts doing a Hurricane Kick and manages to get back onto the rock. The animation for that is pretty lousy, but Akuma is still impressed with Ken's move. Ken then does a flying kick which sends Akuma off the edge, but Akuma floats in the air, throwing fireball after fireball to destroy the rock into several smaller pieces.

After some more talking between the two, Akuma says that he always uses any means to win and doesn't care for anyone else in the world. After doing a flying kick at Ken and missing, Akuma tries again and this times hits him, sending him crashing down. Ken manages to hit the side of a hill and grabs onto a branch to stop his fall, before landing and rolling into mud.

Akuma beings to think that he has won, but Ken gets up and hits Akuma with a two hit combo, and then starts to talk about how he is the better fighter, and begins to flow the chi through him, feeling that the chi of the entire world is focused into him.

Akuma reminds Ken that he is the only one to have mastered the raging demon move and gets ready to use it, but Ken says that he'll stop him from using it, and kicks Akuma. Before Akuma can react, Ken charges at him, with his fists on fire. Akuma notices that Ken is using the "Flaming Dragon Punch" which he is hit with and is defeated. The chi of all the opponents Akuma has stolen is released, and sent back to their proper owners.

And with that, both Ryu and Gouken return to life, Akuma tells Ken that he has made a great enemy today, and that he will return, with more stolen chi. Ken attempts to stop him but Akuma uses some sort of teleport move to vanish into thin air.

Ryu and Gouken appear and tell Ken that he is the greatest warrior yadda yadda, then Ken says he wants to spend the winnings he earned from earlier. And thus ends the episode.

In the games, the story for Gouken and Akuma is quite different. Akuma actually kills Gouken with the Raging Demon, and Ryu and Ken aren't there to stop him.

In the flashback for Akuma and Gouken, when Akuma does a fireball, it's coloured blue. Every other fireball he does in the matches against Ryu and Ken, they are purple, which I suppose was to represent how Akuma is evil because he has PURPLE fireballs! Naughty!

The "Flaming Dragon Punch" Akuma says is quite odd, because Ken doesn't actually do a Dragon Punch on him, he just seems to hit him with yellow coloured fists.

There's an additional flash back scene between Ryu and Ken, and Ken's hair has changed so it's like his hair in the Street Fighter Alpha games, which is a nice detail.

In the ADV DVD, this episode is called "The World's Greatest Fighter" in the episode selection menu.

On the back of the ADV box set, Akuma is called "Hakuma".
