Unused Graphics

Metal Slug 2 hasn’t a lot in the way of unused stuff, sadly, but Metal Slug X makes up for that for having tons of it!

Unused frames of the fatties looking upwards and turning. This has been used in every game since, and not one of them has used the animation. This is in both MS2 and MSX, but the latter provides the ladies with their regular legwear.

And all of Marco and Tarma's backwards and more frames remain from MS1.

Satiko Suzuki is found among the tiles in both games. Amazing!

According to Ivo, this little scarab beetle is unused. Can't remember which games it's in. Also has a flying animation, thanks to Domino for pointing it out.

esreveR pointed out to me that Mission 4's boss, Big Shiee, never has a flame trail on these animations. Yup.

tango_311 found these in MS2 near the graphics of the bikers, presumably to be used as part of their debris, but they aren't used at all.

This is apparently the Aeshi Nero/Mission 2 boss's laser thinning out. But, uh, yeah, I can't understand a lick of these tiles. Thanks esreveR?

This isn’t really an unused sprite, but you never get to see it properly, so I guess it goes here. It’s the animation the soldiers play when they kick down the doors of the carriages in Mission 3. Found by Ivo, in both MSX and MS2.

This quirky little guy was found by Jereminion and ripped by Ivo, he thinks he would’ve appeared in one of the unused levels, the rooftop one. I guess he would’ve acted like the Arabs in Mission 1; he stands around, complaining at you, but when you shoot at him/at a soldier, he’ll get frightened. MSX only.

Each of the animal Slugs have two different win icons: One of them standing, one of them sitting. The sitting Camel Slug one is used, but not the standing one. Both games.

Zounds! An animation of a Rebel soldier being sliced in half vertically! Ivo didn't believe me when I told him about it, but when I showed him the tiles from MSX, his exact words were "Holy shit man I thought you were mistaken about the cutting in half thing but wow!!" And so he pieced it together, animated it, got the right colours, and sent it over. He's a trooper.

So, here it is. A soldier being sliced vertically. I've no idea what this would've been used for. Unless Eri was meant to wield a katana as a close-range weapon or one of the grenade upgrades was a giant glass shard, I've no idea how you would've seen this.

The snowball-rolling soldier is in MSX, and most bizarrely, not in the level he appears in, Mission 3. Instead, he rolls them along the bridge of MS1 Mission 2.

It's the most elusive of all the MS1 vehicles: That lift-up thing that I forgot the name of. It appears in one of the test stages.

The Ostrich Slug is in Metal Slug X, with all of it’s animation present!

And the snail enemy is included, with all animation, including it’s vomit!

And the president and the two henchmen are there too, with every animation there, including his trademark "Hi!"

[leftovers include tons of things from Metal Slug 3 and the first one, as well as a couple of MS2 exclusive sprites. Namely, the ostrich and elephants are there, as well as the snails, submarines, Japanese soldiers, crabs, the Rebel armour thing, and so on.]

And that submarine is in MSX too. Every frame of animation.

Don’t forget the Elephant Slug.

It’s hard to write for this now.

Because, I mean, the sprites are there, and all their animation.

But they’re unchanged from where they appear.

If they were changed slightly, it would be intriguing.

But no.

They’re not.

Shame.

Because that'd give me stuff to write about.

Alas, I'm just rambling here.

Yep.

Just rambling.

I really hope I don't end out rambling so much that I ask people the ultimate question.

No, not the ultimate question, as in "the life, the universe, and everything".

This question is much more diabolical.

"How's the weather?"

Strikes fear into every damned person in the room.

Conversation killer number one.

You know what's also an evil phrase?

"Have you lost weight?"

Because seriously, we all know that if they had lost weight, they'd have been gloating about it to everyone, and showing their skinny ass of morning TV shows.
