The attack starts outside a desert town during the night. Morden's army attacks by sending out basic troopers to deal with you, but you can usually kill them without them even getting a chance to attack you. You'll eventually reach the town, and a troop carrier and helicopter will appear. Take out the bomb dropping helicopter first, then move onward to face a Sarubia tank. These fire bombs which slowly travel across the floor, so you'll have to jump over them.

The mid boss of this mission is the same as before: three towers with rocket batteries. There is a prisoner here who has the enemy chaser weapon, which is great for this boss. After the boss you can ride on a camel slug. Use it's firepower to shoot out a wall and take on an Arabian who is also riding on a camel. After the wall is destroyed, you can get a couple of items of Rumi, and swap from the camel slug to the metal slug if you wish. Go onward to take on sword slingers and large missile launchers.

Go onward and a helicopter squadron arrives. Destroy the red one first and the rest will explode. The boss appears after you destroy these and it's the Amoured Carrier, last seen in the original Metal Slug. It attacks you in the same way as before, with grenades and rockets, and will rise on stands to reveal a flame thrower. Those wanting to rescue extra prisoners should destroy the flame thrower, as doing so will release three POWs.

Free the first prisoner you come across to get a laser weapon. Use it to blast through some Arabian soldiers, who charge right at you when they see you. After they have been killed, destroy the red barrel to progress into the mining area.

Go past the first few miners and a crowd of them will rush past you. The reason why is because there are mummies on the loose! These take more hits than Morden troopers, and can turn you into a mummy with their breath attack. As you work your way through, a new type of enemy appears -mummy dogs. These are agile enemies but are not much of a threat due to their tendency not to attack. You'll get to a door which is guarded by mummies which drop in from above. Kill then all and the door will open letting you proceed.

This next section is platform heavy so be prepared to time your jumps carefully. There are loads of the mummy and mummy dog enemies, but you can get either the shotgun or flame thrower in this section, both of which are very effective against these enemies. When you reach a large pillar, go up and get in the Slugnoid. The boss of this mission, called Aeshinaero, will appear and try to literally eat you if you stay too low. It can also fire off energy balls, and stay away from the centre if it starts to charge up -this signals that it is about to do it's super laser attack.

Parachuting in on an enemy train, there are lots of items at the start of this mission, and you should be able to come "big" in no time at all. Make your way from carriage to carriage, taking out enemies as you go. Destroy locks on carriage doors to open them up and let you at the bonus items inside.

Sine hovercraft enemies will appear beneath you, so be ready to aim down and shoot. You can destroy the missiles that they fire at you. After these you will be at the front of the train and will need to make a leap from one train to the other to progress. However, before you can safely make the jump, a helicopter appears and will drop bombs down, take it out.

As soon as the helicopter is destroyed you'll face the aircraft carrier sub boss. It doesn't deploy troops anymore, instead just relying on it's engines to try and kill you. Watch out for the two tanks it houses on the top of it -these will fire slow moving shells at you. When the sub boss is destroyed, go right and you'll arrive at some carriage with snipers. Collect the drop shot weapon and use it to kill these usually troublesome foes easily. After two carriages of snipers, you will get the chance to use either a metal slug or a slug flyer. Choose one and let the carnage begin. Loads of enemies will attack, but the extra fire power the slugs have means you can wipe them all out quickly.

A squadron of enemy planes will try and stop you from reaching the boss. Just stay to the left of the screen and shoot them all down. Then go right to meet the boss of this level, named the Dragon Nosuke. It attacks with a mini gun (with two fire types) and has a flame thrower at the bottom. It can also shoot out fireballs, but these are easy to dodge.

Just about every building you see in this mission can be destroyed. Doing this reveals lots of points items, and it's easy to go "big" in this mission. A double-decker bus will block off the path and will need to be destroyed for you to progress. Watch out for the troops which it constantly deploys.

You'll have to drop down after the bus to a section with lots of wells. Be careful though, as missiles keep launching out of the wells so carefully time your jumps to get over them. Enemy soldiers are about, usually attacking by throwing grenades around the place, so be ready to throw bombs to take out groups of them. You'll fight one of those Sarubia tanks, but this one is slightly more difficult to destroy since there are soldiers above you throwing grenades about. After the tank is destroyed, proceed right to a small soldier force. You should have the laser weapon at this point so taking them all out should be no problem.

As you continue, the Mars People arrive in UFO's taking pot shots at you whilst supported by rebel troops. Destroy any buildings you see for points items and special weapons as you'll definitely need the latter to break through all the enemies. Eventually you'll see a metal slug which is very useful for the rest of the mission and makes it a whole lot easier to shoot down the UFO enemies.

Keep going right blasting through any UFOs that appear. Eventually they stop coming, and the boss of this mission -Big Shiee. This submarine with treat tacks has lots of turrets which fire grenades around the screen. Destroy them and Big Shiee reveals it's main weapon, which is a gigantic cannon. It fires slowly but has a large blast radius so always be on the move.

Destroy teh first car you see in this mission to get the laser weapon. Lots of troops will attack you, but eventually you'll find a metal slug. Get in it and be ready to take on tanks and helicopters as well as the usual array of Morden's soldiers. Destroy and cars in the way as you can sometimes get bonus items.

You'll have to go down a small hill, which leads to the subway entrance. However, several helicopters attack before you are allowed in, and then a Sarubia rolls out. Destroy them all so you can progress inside. In this next section, several carriages will try to crush you at certain points, quickly blast away at them to blow them off the rails. These aren't the only problem though as there is a large tank (similar to the ones you fought in mission 4 in the original Metal Slug) and even more helicopters to destroy. Eventually you will get to a sealed door which needs to be shot so you can progress into the sewers.

The sewers hold a new enemy -mutants. These creatures will turn red and if they get close to you, they explode which will kill you. Use the levers you see to reveal items and even a Slugnoid. Blow away the locked gates to get through the sewers, but always be on the look out for mutants as they will simply keep coming no matter how many you kill. The mutants can be especially annoying in large groups, and I found it easier to simply run as quickly as possible taking out the odd one or two than standing around trying to kill them all.

Some troops will appear with tank support. If you have lost the Slugnoid don't worry as you can get another one just before the boss. The boss of this mission is a submarine called Hozmi which has several energy ball attacks as it's main offence. Use the Slugnoid's cannon to deal the most damage, then crash the slug into it once it's cannon ammo has been depleted. The energy balls this boss fires at you will differ in speed and movement so always be ready to jump around or duck a lot.

Outside the enemy stronghold, you have to avoid falling into the water, and jump from platform to platform. To make it more difficult, missiles keep launching out of the water and enemy troops will throw firework rockets and missiles at you. After the main platform section you'll come up against snipers and parachuting bazooka wielders.

After these enemies you will come to a bridge which is full of enemy troops. Chunky missiles are also been lauched at you, but you can actually use them as platforms. However, don't jump at the front of them as they will explode and kill you. Once you get to the end of the bridge it's sub boss time with Allen O'Neill. He attacks you the same was as before with heavy machine gun shots, pipe bombs and close range melee attacks. The normal soldiers will also try to help Allen out and throw grenades at you. Once he's dead take his weapon and go onward.

You are almost at the stronghold entrance. A final barrage of soldiers are around trying to stop you reaching the inside, including grenade throwers, shield grunts, snipers and more. A final enemy SCUD launcher blocks the entrance, so concentrate all fire on it, as once it is destroyed the door opens allowing you inside.

Upon entering the stronghold you'll see a couple of docked submarines with troops on them. Throw a few bombs to destroy the subs, killing the soldiers on them at the same time. More enemies await you as you continue, including those darn snipers. However, after you've killed these, the Mars People aliens appear all over the place to take you on. Like the mutants from the previous mission, these are harmless alone but deadly in large groups so kill them as quickly as possible.

More aliens will attack joined by mine throwing soldiers. The aliens will keep coming, getting larger in numbers, attacking in waves. Some of the Mars People have better guns than others, the white coloured aliens can fire fast moving blue plasma, for example. Blast through the waves of aliens and human soldiers and eventually you'll be able to proceed outside.

Morden's outside, but suddenly 2 Mars people appear and kill the two soldiers with Morden. A giant UFO appears and blast Morden's tank, then takes him prisoner. It appears that the truce between the Mars People and the rebel army is over, and you must destroy the UFO. The UFO itself only has one attack - a fast firing laser. However, it can also deploy smaller UFO's to help it out. It takes a lot of hits to destroy, but if you attack the smaller UFO's they sometimes drop weapons for you. The UFO will crash into the ground after it takes enough hits.

Just when you think it's all over, the Mars People mother ship comes down and picks up the UFO, and the true final boss battle begins. The mother ship will send out smaller UFO's which can move faster than the others. The mother ship's main attack is a super laser, but it can only fire straight down and is easy to avoid. Rebel soldiers and tanks will help you fight this boss, and you can even get a metal slug off them to use. Keep firing away at the mother ship and it eventually will take too much of a beating and call it quits.

After you defeat the boss you get the standard score screen. As usual, I completed the game perfectly without using any credits, I didn't even lose a life I'm that damn good. You probably won't be able to do this. No, I don't use save states or anything, I got it all right first time. Gargle.
