Daytona USA
Written by Galvatron.
These screenshots were taken from a 5% complete version of Daytona, showing strange things such as the Hornet driving across water, which would have been awesome if there was a sea track in the final game.
This is from Three Seven Speedway, aka the beginner track. The corner is completely different here as it has a hill but in the final it's got a big picture of Sonic instead.
More different background scenery from the beginner track, it says "SPEED - K OUP" on the turn in red letters.
Far off shot of several cars with more basic scenery.
Another early shot, as you can see it's a lot less detailed than in the final game.
And it seems...
...that, given this was only 5% complete at the time...
...only Three Seven Speedway was ready, and stuff like the HUD didn't exist yet.
These shots from now onwards were from a near final build of the game.
As you can see Sonic is here now, but what's odd is that there are 32 cars on the track, when in the final version there are 40. The lap count in the top left is also different to the final, and it says "condition" under the radar rather than "traffic".
This is from the advanced circuit, Dinosaur Canyon. But here there are 24 cars on the track, in the final there are only 20. Also the lap counter is different again and it says condition rather than traffic under the map, but my scanner didn't pick that up because it's shit.
Again, and those lap times are rather long... nearly two minutes just for one lap? Wow.
This and the next few screens are from a 10% completed Saturn version of the game, which turned out to be a horrid piece of software. As you can see the level of detail here is at an all time low.
