A brief introduction page to what this prototype is all about.
One of the biggest differences with this version is that it actually reveals what the plot is about, and it just happens to be completely different to the later versions of the game.
This page takes a look at all of the moves Joe has in the beta, which include quite a lot of differences to the final game, with many attacks featured here being cut out later on, with several new magic attacks getting the chop along with a couple of other extra moves.
In total, there are eight levels in this beta -one more than in the final game! However, the levels on offer here are extremely incomplete and whilst each one can be completed, they are barely playable with many glitches along with several wacky standard enemies and bosses that simply don't work at all.
Surprisingly, despite the game being so incomplete, SEGA were good enough to have an ending ready for the game, although it isn't much of one. It does, however, show Joe the ninja pimp-master with a mystery girl.
There isn't much music in this version, and whilst most of the stuff here was eventually used in the final game a lot of it sounds different. There were also several sound effects and voices that were changed for the final game.
This beta does have a couple of bugs but they aren't anything that wonderful.
Whilst we all know that most of the levels are completely different to the final version, here are a few extra bits and pieces that different from beta to final, such as option screens and more.
There are a few codes available in this beta from the classics infinite shurikens cheat to more useful things such as a character editor and a level skip.
